Why Cocoguru Coconut Industries?

Cocoguru’s brand vision is simple: “Spreading the benefits of coconut to people.” The brand was launched in early 2010 to bring focus to coconut-based product manufacturing under Sri Rama Industries. Now, these business activities have been separated into a new company. Having the same product and corporate brand simplifies the branding process.

• Coconut – Vision and brand essence revolve around coconut
• Industries – Reflects that the business is not just about trading/marketing but also about manufacturing

Why a Private Limited Company?

Though forming a company is not mandatory, we chose to do so despite the higher cost of incorporation, regulatory compliance, and the fact that:

• All promoters and top management belong to the same family
• There are no external equity investors at present

Yet, we incorporated as a Private Limited Company because:

• It enables a clear separation between personal and business affairs
• It allows us to raise funds through equity if debt avenues are exhausted
• It facilitates professional management by allowing merit-based appointments, enabling promoters to delegate day-to-day operations
• Our promoters are serious about scaling up and eventually becoming a Public Limited Company

What is the future of Sri Rama Industries?

Sri Rama Industries, a proprietorship started in 1987 by Shivashankar Bhat, focused on coconut oil manufacturing. Going forward:

• The existing manufacturing setup at Parladka will offer job work services, allowing local farmers to extract oil from their own copra
• The retail outlet and copra collection center at Yelmudi will distribute Cocoguru’s products locally and procure copra for the company
• The first floor of the Yelmudi building will be rented out to Cocoguru as its Registered Office
• As the trademark owner of “Cocoguru,” Sri Rama Industries will license it to the company for marketing purposes
• Sri Rama Industries will also pursue non-coconut-related businesses such as trading in sesame oil, pepper, and honey

What’s Next for the Company?

The company’s agenda for the next one year includes:

• Establishing a new factory at a new site for coconut oil manufacturing and packaging
• Building a modern, highly mechanized/automated facility compliant with ISO 22000 Food Safety Management standards
• Setting up a copra crushing facility with a capacity of 15 tons per 24 hours
• Acquiring all required licenses and commencing production within six months
• Expanding the distribution network of Cocoguru products across Dakshina Kannada
• Initiating supply of edible copra and by-products like oil cake and second-quality copra

The company was incorporated on 2nd September, which is celebrated as World Coconut Day — a fitting beginning for a business rooted in coconuts. We seek the blessings and abundance (kalpa) of the ‘Kalpavriksha’ for a bright and fruitful future.
